From the eastern part of Maharashtra, some Nagpurkar came together and established operations in various sectors like Pharmacy Retail, Transport, Education, Healthcare under the HERD GROUP since 2006. The idea of establishing a financial institution (in 2014) for the purposes of providing economic independence to rural and semi-urban – women, youth, farmers and small businesses (hawkers, store owners and traders) took shape on 5th January 2023 in the form of Rupaai Mahila Urban. 

The word ‘Rupaai’ got coined to denote:

1. Rupay i.e. Money
2. Aai i.e. Mother
3. Rupa – Name of the Mother of Founder of HERD Group

Rupaai denotes ‘Rupay Aaichya Rupaat’ – meaning that money in the beautiful form of mother – who is reliable, supportive and provides strength to grow and support you! She is Saraswati (providing knowledge and wisdom), Durga (providing power and strength) and Laxmi (providing Wealth). 

The logo of Rupaai denotes these three attributes:

• The leaves – denoting growth and prosperity as well as cooperative spirit
• The letter Ru – denoting Money
• The word rupaai – denoting rupay aaichya rupaat.
• The ‘xxxxxxx’ means that eligibility (knowledge, wisdom, strength and power) is essential for acquiring wealth.

In Rupaai the day begins with the prayer of Saraswati, Laxmi and Durga – reminding the Rupaai Team about:

• Knowledge & Wisdom – essential for all decisions and actions
• Strength & Power – essential for following through and completing all decisions and actions as well for overcoming challenges that come in way of growth
• Wealth & Prosperity – essential for living a fulfilling life

The members of the society contribute to the wider movement of the organisation as they and their wider network utilise various services of Rupaai. The Rupaai Board of Directors (Rupaai BoD) lead the progress in cooperation and form the backbone of the organisation. Various Committees  constituted by the BoD to support the functioning of the BoD. The Rupaai BoD have a regular meeting every Friday to review weekly reports, and to ensure interests of the members are prioritised. Rupaai covers the entire Kalmeshwar Taluka and is making inroads in Saoner, Parseoni, Ramtek, Katol and Hingna Talukas of Nagpur district. The Head Office of Rupaai is part of HERD GROUP, Dharampeth, Nagpur. Rupaai intends to further the cooperative spirit through the following:

• Improve the product and service offerings of credit cooperatives in the ever modernising banking financial systems (national and international) to provide best-in-range services to our rural and semi-urban members
• Support and Consolidate other Credit Cooperative Societies to ensure long term sustainability of the cooperative movement of Maharashtra which has long formed the foundation of the rural economy. Thus also establishing cooperation under the cooperative policy of the Govt of Maharashtra.
• Grow its social commitment through regular business incubation training programs for women and youth. This includes women and youth empowerment mass awareness training.

Rupaai Team is regularly trained through internal and off-site training programs on technology, financial products and services, customer management, SOPs, Policies and Data Analysis. Rupaai Credit Society is operated through banking and financial software that ensures strict compliance to our Rupaai Banking and Financial System Policies and SOPs. The Branch is equipped with CCTV and security system with power backup. Rupaai will be one of the few Credit Societies in the area to offer:

• Micro ATM Facilities
• Bill Payments – Electricity, Mobile Bill, DTH Bill through BBPS
• RupaaiPAY – Mobile Banking Service Facility

Rupaai Team (Directors, Members, Customers and Daily Deposit collection and Recovery Agents and Employees) believes in Continuous Quality Improvement and intends to work on the following in coming future:

• ISO Certification
